Connor came home yesterday! He came home on oxygen and an apnea monitor. He is doing good, the kids love him so much, especially Kennedy. We bathed him and put the clothes that we bought on him. He loves his swing, I think he is happy to be home! When he was discharged he weighed 7 lbs 4 oz and is 19 in long. He is very alert and is a happy baby. He has lots of dr. appts he has to see his pediatrician monday, a pulminologist, an orthopedic dr. and the plastic surgeon. He also has a home nurse come see him twice a week. Connors journey in the NICU is finally over, and we are so happy to finally have him home with his family.

Hi everybody! Connor is now 5 lbs. 15 oz and 17 inches long. He is doing good, he is still requiring a low flow of oxygen. One of the nurses today said that he is addicted to the oxygen, she was just joking. anyway he is now taking 6 out of 8 feedings by the bottle. The doctor told me that he can go home on oxygen as soon as he is taking all eight feedings by mouth. So I think we are getting close. He is a really good baby, he hardly ever cries, he is a sweetheart! He has been put in a brace for his hip because he has an unstable hip from being breech. He has to be in it for 23 hours a day for a month then they will do another ultrasound then he might have to be in it for 6 months. We will find out in a month. Things are good with the family, Kennedy and Ayden are with Steph and grandma Teddie right now, and Paiton is with us. It has almost been 3 months and we just want the baby home. Thank you to everybody who has helped out with our kids or brought us dinner. And thanks for everybodys thoughts and prayers.

Connor is still on the nasal canula, he has moved from 5 to 3 liters of oxygen flow and he is between 30-35 % oxygen. We breathe 21% oxygen. He hasn't moved down off the flow of oxygen very fast. He likes the extra support. He is 5 lbs. 7 oz. and is tolerating full feedings. He is almost 39 weeks gestation.

Connor is going great. He is still on nasel canula and they are slowly weaning him off of that. He is up to full feedings, still being fed through a tube, which is being slowly infused over an hour. They don't want to push his feedings because if he starts to not tolerate it they will have to start over from scratch. But so far he is doing well with the feedings. He will probably start bottle feeding this week. He has to learn how to coordinate sucking, swallowing, and breating at the same time. After that I will be able to breastfeed him. I asked the doctor yesterday when he might be able to come home and he said he thought within the next two weeks. So that is exciting news. Last night he weighed 4 lbs. 14 oz.

Today baby Connor Jack is 4 lbs. 10 oz. He wore his first outfit today, because he was put into a crib to see if he could maintain his own temperature without help from the lamp. He is doing well with that. He is still on the nasal canula and they are slowly weaning him off of that. I told his nurse today how great it is to finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. He is getting closer and closer to coming home everyday. jay and Iget to hold him every time we are there, I get overwhelmed with joy when I get to hold him and bond with him. I just can't even explain the love I have for him, he is precious! But things are going well and he is doing great. He is now 36 weeks gestation.

Aug. 21, 2007
Hi everybody! I hope everybody hasn't given up on me updating Connor's profile. It has been a rough couple of weeks for the baby and us. But there is really good news. Connor has come off the ventilator. He came off on Saturday Aug 18th. He was put on Cpap for two days and now he is just on a nasal canula. He is breathing the same amount of oxygen that we breathe and he is doing real well. Being off the vent is one step closer to coming home. He still isin't getting any food through his belly. He had an infection 3 weeks ago and it was a gastriointestional infection so his belly still isin't tollerating food. It just takes time. But as soon as we can get him eating we can hopefully bring him home. His current weight is 4 lbs 7 oz and he is big enough to maintain his own tempurature. His length is 16 1/2 inches. He is getting so big. He has got chubby little cheeks and a double chin. His foot is starting to heal but it will probably take months to completely heal. Over the last couple of weeks he received three more blood transfusions, he was on antibiotics for 17 days, and he went on watch for what is called NEC. It is a very serious condition where his intestions were inflamed. But he got past all the little bumps in the road and is now off the ventilator and on his way to coming home. Some of you may not know a whole lot about the IV burn. It happened on Aug 5th. The IV infiltrated and caused a 3rd degree burn. The burn was so bad that they have had a plastic surgon look at it and he told me that he might need skin graphs later on. The main concern that the doctors have is weather his mobility will be affected, but we won't know that until later on either. It has been a very hard thing for us to know that our baby has suffered a 3rd degree burn on top of what he is already going through. I know a lot of people want to see the pics of the burn, so i have posted some. They are hard to look at but it will give a little bit of a perspective on how bad it really is. It just goes to show how special connor is that he has had to endure so much already and how strong he is. He is such a little fighter and he is so sweet and so special. We love him so much and can't wait to bring him home to his family.

Happy one month old baby Connor Jack! We love you!

Connor had another hard day today he had an IV infiltrate in his foot. In other words it wasn't inserted into his vein right and the fluid from the IV leaked into the tissue. When the nurse realized it had infiltrated she tore the tape off his skin to take the IV out and it tore his skin off along with the tape. The fluid from the IV burned his skin on his foot. They are putting a cream on it to help it heal. They are also talking about having a plastic surgeon look at it. The main concearn is for his mobility in his foot to not be affected by the damage that has been done. They have been giving him something for the pain. And I spent all day at the hospital with him. He is so strong and he takes everything so well. Some of the positives for today are that they started feeding him again, only 2 cc's every three hours but it's a good start. Also he got a blessing from our home teacher in our ward. He gave a beautiful blessing and Connor was awake, and very calm during it. He has the lord there with him and angels watching over him through every trial he faces. Thanks to all of you who fasted and prayed for him today. And thanks for everybodys thoughts and prayers. Love Jay and Camecia married one year ago today!

Hi everyone! sorry it's been so long since i've updated. I'll try to fill you all in on any changes in the last week, but I will start with today first. Little Connor had a little bit of a rough day today. His blood test results came back positive for an infection. It probably won't make a whole lot of sence to most of you but the organisim is gram negative bacilli. From what it sounds like it is a pretty bad bug. They said that they will probably have him on antibiotics for seventeen days. They had to do a spinal tap. They said that he did really good, and it only took about thirty seconds. They also said that the infection is eating at his blood platlets. So they gave him his fourth blood transfusion tonight although the blood wasn't red like the last times it was yellow, because they took the platelets only. I was there with him during the transfusion and he did really well. He is still on the ventilator. His oxygen is down to 21% most of the time which is what we breathe. The ventilator is still giving him 15 breaths a minute. But he does the rest on his own. He weighs 3 lbs 5 oz. During the week he stayed about the same on the vent his oxygen levels were a little higher than they are now. At one point he got up to 3 lbs 7 oz. He was getting 25 cc's of milk, but he stopped tollerating his feedings. So they quit giving him milk and put him back on IV nutrition. Possibly because he was developing an infection would be why he started to not tolerate his feedings. When he's ready to start being fed they will start at a low amount and work his way up to what he was getting before. I got to hold him last wednesday for about an hour. It was really special. We love him so much. Kennedy and Ayden and Paiton got to look at him through the window. Ayden can't wait until he comes home. He asked if they would let him see the baby if he wore a hospital bracelet like mommys. Grandma Teddie got to spend the week out here and spend some time with Connor too. But he's doing good he just needs to grow. The doctors and nurses just have to remind me that he should still be in my belly for another 6 or 7 weeks when I start getting anxious to bring him home. He's right where he needs to be. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. Love you all.

Baby Connor is doing good today. They increased his feedings and he is tolerating the milk. He is on the lowest setting on the ventilator, but he is doing most of the breathing on his own, the ventilator occasionally kicks in when he decides to take a break. But for the most part he is doing all of the breathing on his own. Because he is on the lowest setting the next step is to take him off of the ventilator, so maybe in the next couple of days. Yesterday he weighed 2 lbs 14.8 oz. He was wide awake and looking around today, it was so cute! He will be three weeks old tomorrow, that is 32 weeks and one day gestation if I was still pregnant, so he is still pretty young. He truley is a miracle baby.

Connor is doing really good today. He is requiring very little oxygen from the ventillator, and doing most of the breathing on his own. All of his blood test have come back negative for possible infections. But they think that he caught a virus and that is why he was put back on the ventillator. The doctors said that his chest x-ray looked really good today and that if he did have a virus it is working it's way out. We could tell a big difference today with him doing a lot better and also looking better than he has over the last week. The nurses today told us that they all love baby Connor because he is so cute. They are all amazed by how strong and active he is. Another big thing is that they are feeding him 6cc's of milk every three hours. So his feedings have increased quite a bit. His nurse tolk us that she weighed him last night and he was at 2 lb 13 oz. Although it was such a big weight gain from the night before that she was going to recheck it again tonight to see if it was acurate. Anyway we left the hospital feeling really good about his progress today and we just can't wait untill the day we bring him home.

Connor doing good. He is still on the ventillator. The nurses say that he is ready to have the ventillator taken out because he wraps his little hand around the tube and tries to pull it out. But he is not quite ready to be taken off of it yet. There really isin't really very much change he is just kind of staying the same. He is such a sweet baby and we love him very much.

Connor has been back on the ventillator since wednesday July 18th. The doctors said that he needed a little extra help and that he was just getting tired. He also was put back under the light for jaundice on wednesday, then he was taken off the light thursday afternoon. Friday night he was given another blood transfusion. Everything is normal for babies this small. The doctors are very positive about how he is doing. One nurse told me that we should feel very blessed about the way he is progressing. He is such a sweet and special baby even this small you can feel his sweet little spirit. We love him so much and can't wait until the day we bring him home. Please remember to keep him in your prayers. I love you all.

I am sure a lot of you are wondering when Connor will be able to come home... well that completely depends on how well he does in the NICU. But here are a list of important milestones that he will reach before he comes home.

-Breathes on his own
-Is held for the first time
-Graduates from IV nutrition
-Breastfeeds for the first time
-Graduates from the warmer
-Graduates from the oxygen machine
-Takes his last apnea medication
-Has his first eye exam
-Goes home
Day one of Connors life he was put on a ventillator to help him breathe. He met his Grandma Amy for the first time. His nurse closely monitors his heart rate, his oxygen saturation, and how much oxygen goes into his lungs. His body is heated by a warmer above his body to help him maintain a normal temperature. Connor was fed nutrients and calories through an IV for the first 8 days of his life.

Day Two Connor received a very special blessing from his grandpa Rick and mommy got to finally spend some time with him.

Day three of Conners life an echocardiogram was taken of his heart and they diagnosed him with Patent Ductua Arteriosus (PDA) which is a connection between the main blood vessel of the body and the blood vessels to the lungs. In other words when a full term baby takes his first breaths and during the first days of life the PDA closes. In babies born premature sometimes the PDA doesn't close. Connor was given three doses of medicine and the the PDA closed. We feel very blessed that no surgery was required to close the PDA.

Day four of Connors life was a big milestone. He was taken off of the ventilator and put on what is called C-Pap. The C-Pap is oxygen attached to his nose just to give him a little extra help, he has been and is currently requiring between 30 and 40 percent oxygen.

Day five and six Connor is still on the C-Pap, he is still being fed through the IV. He is holding steady with breathing on his own with the help of the oxygen. He recieved what is called an IV Pic, the IV was inserted through his vein up through his arm and into an artery by his heart. The IV Pic can be left in for a month so he won't have to be poked as often. The IV insertion had to be confirmed by an x-ray to make sure it was inserted properly and he was sedated so he didn't feel anything.

Day seven Connor is still on C-Pap requiring the same amount of oxygen. He met grandma Teddie and Grandpa Steve for the first time. Mommy got to hold Connor for the first time. It was an unforgettable moment.

Day eight Connor is still on C-Pap still requiring 35% oxygen. He was given breastmilk for the first time. They will monitor how well he tolerates it.

Day nine Connor is still on C-Pap and requiring the same amount of oxygen. He didn't tolerate the breastmilk so the will try again in a day or two. The Doctor said that he is "Holding Steady" so that is good news.

Day ten through twelve Connor is still on C-Pap at the same oxygen level. He has good color and is 2 pound eleven oz. They are giving him doses of caffeine for apnea. They say that is a common thing they do with premie babies.

Connor Jack Manning

Connor Jack Manning was born on July 6, 2007 at 10:46 am, weighing in at 2lbs 3.8 oz and only 13 inches long. He was two and a half months early and is currently in the NICU until he is strong enough to go home. Mom is doing well and the family is excited for the day we bring Connor home.
